Our comprehensive Basic Car Maintenance Course with Hands-on is designed for every driver who wishes to understand their vehicle better.
This 1-day, 8-hour programme provides foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in routine car upkeep. Learning basic car maintenance can save you time and money, giving you the confidence to manage common vehicle issues and communicate effectively with mechanics.
This car maintenance course is also eligible for subsidies through WSQ, SkillsFuture Credit, PSEA, and UTAP.

Course Objectives
This car maintenance course aims to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to perform preventive maintenance, conduct serviceability checks, and carry out first-level corrective maintenance on Class 3 vehicles. Participants will gain a practical understanding of vehicle systems and learn how to identify and address common issues.
Course Outcomes
Our car mechanic course is conducted at a real-life car workshop in Ubi, Singapore, offering invaluable hands-on experience with an actual car. This practical approach ensures you gain confidence in managing your vehicle's health. Upon completion of this automotive course, learners will be able to:
- LO1: Describe the functions and operations of internal and peripheral systems found in Class 3 vehicles.
- LO2: Interpret fault codes and different warning indicators displayed by the vehicle.
- LO3: Perform checks and inspections to verify the working conditions of various parts of the Class 3 vehicle and its peripheral equipment.
- LO4: Execute preventive maintenance tasks and tests to ensure operational readiness of the vehicle.
- LO5: Apply appropriate techniques to determine the causes of common vehicle faults.
- LO6: Rectify identified faults using correct techniques, procedures, tools, and equipment.
- LO7: Verify the performance of the car part/s or equipment after maintenance, ensuring proper functionality.
Mode of Assessment
This car maintenance course is conducted in person at a real-life car workshop, providing an immersive and hands-on learning experience.
- Practical Assessment - Conducted on Day 1
- Written Assessment - MCQs and SAQs
Certification
Upon successful completion of all requirements for this automotive course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
Requirements
Requirements
- At least 16 years old.
- Have minimum primary school education.
- Have a basic knowledge of the Singapore Workplace Safety and Health requirements.
- Able to speak, listen, write, and read English with Numeracy skills at a minimum proficiency level of the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualification i.e., Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 3.
- No prior maintenance/technical work experience required.
Attire
Comfortable and practical clothing suitable for a workshop environment. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory for safety reasons.
