From 1 July 2023, Provide Guard and Patrol Services And Operate Basic Security Equipment Course will become one of the three compulsory Security Officer Courses to get a security officer license. Find out more on the steps of getting a security officer license →.
This course will impart the knowledge and skills for individuals who intend to join the Security Industry as a Security Officer, and individuals who are presently holding the rank of Security Officer, to perform basic Security Officers’ access control duties at any assigned workplace. Learners will benefit from this course as they will develop the necessary skill set to perform Security duties such as static guard duties, operating basic security equipment, and patrol duties, at any assigned workplace.

Guard and Patrol, Access Control Management (Provide Guard and Patrol Services And Operate Basic Security Equipment)
Course Objectives
- LO1: Prepare security officer for duty in accordance with organisational procedures
- LO2: Operate access control system in accordance with organisational procedures
- LO3: Perform static guard duty in accordance with organisational procedures
- LO4: Handle telephone calls in accordance with organisational procedures
- LO5: Perform patrol duty in accordance with organisational procedures
- LO6: Handle intruder alarm system in accordance with organisational procedures
- LO7: Hand over duty in accordance with organisational procedures

Course Content
This course, WSQ Provide Guard and Patrol Services, Access Control Management is a mandatory unit for Security Officers. This course will cover the following topics:
- Prepare for Duty
- Access Control at Building Premises
- Static Guard Duty at Guardhouse
- Handle Telephone Calls and Lost-and-Found Properties.
- Make reports and hand over duties.

Entry Requirements
- Able to listen, read, write, and speak English at WPLN Level 2 or equivalent
- Those that do not meet the entry requirements will be subjected to an interview before acceptance.
Course Duration and Timings:
- 26 training hours (3 days) 0800hrs to 1800hrs daily
- Assessment by POLWEL – 3rd day (2 hours)
- Assessment format: Role-Play and Oral Questions
Certification
Participants who fulfill all requirements will be certified with a Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
The other 2 compulsory security courses for Security Officer (SO) are Incident Response (HSIS) and Threat Observation (RTT). After completing these 3 basic security modules, you can then Apply for the Security Licence.
