Horizontal Surface Maintenance (Level 1)
The Horizontal Surface Maintenance (Level 1) is a module in WSQ Environmental Cleaning that is designed to train cleaners in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of various horizontal surfaces safely and effectively.
As a core unit within the WSQ framework, this course aims to enhance the employability and career progression of workers in Singapore’s cleaning industry. Eligible trainees can benefit from SkillsFuture Credit & SkillsFuture Subsidy to support their learning.
This course is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills for comprehensive hard floor and carpet cleaning. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Prepare for cleaning activities
- Remove loose dust and debris from hard floor surfaces
- Remove spillage from hard floor surfaces
- Manually remove impacted soil from hard floor surfaces
- Perform mopping of hard floor surfaces
- Reinstate the work area after cleaning is completed
- Report discrepancies or issues observed at the workplace, in accordance with the National Environment Agency (NEA) guidelines and other industry standards

- Have a minimum primary school education
- Develop Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking of English to a proficiency level equivalent to Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 2
