Course Overview

Operate Basic Security Equipment (OBSE)

Operate Basic Security Equipment (OBSE) is a mandatory course for Senior Security Officers (SSO) under the Progressive Wage Model (PWM). OBSE course will equip security officers with essential knowledge and application skills to operate and utilise various security equipment and apply them to their workplace in many ways such as:

  1. Operate access control equipment
  2. Operate alarm monitoring equipment
  3. Operate CCTV monitoring equipment

Another mandatory SSO course is the Manage Disorderly Conduct & Threatening Behaviour (MDCTB).

*Please Note: From 1 July 2023, OBSE will be part of the Security Officer Mandatory training course

Course Objectives

This unit specifies the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of a security personnel to operate an access control, alarm monitoring and closed circuit television (CCTV) monitoring equipment.

Course Outcome

  • Able to identify the access points of entry for different levels of authorized entry
  • Able to operate the access control equipment in accordance to organization
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Able to report the location of unauthorized entry
  • Able to identify the nature of unauthorized entry
  • Able to carry out basic troubleshooting and report any equipment fault to the supervisor
  • Able to complete relevant documentation relating to the access control equipment

Entry Requirements

  • Able to listen, read, write and speak English at WPLN Level 2 or equivalent
  • Those that do not meet the entry requirements will be subjected to interview before acceptance.

Learners should also be able to read a computer monitor and see at a distance and possess basic skills in operating a computer

Course Duration and Timings

  • 2 days (17.5 training hours), 0800hrs to 1900hrs daily
  • Summative Assessment by POLWEL – 2nd day (2 hours)
  • Assessment method : Oral with Role play

Certification

Participants who fulfil all requirements will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).

Before you can take the SSO courses, you need to first complete the 3 compulsory basic licencing courses for Security Officer (SO).  These 3 compulsory security courses for Security Officer (SO) are Provide Patrol & Guard (PGPS)Incident Response (HSIS) and Threat Observation (RTT).  After completing these 3 basic security modules, you can then Apply for the Security Licence.
